F is for the Free Prize: People often don't decide to buy the best product, or support the best solution to their problems. Good ideas aren't always enough by themselves anymore--we need a compelling "backstory"--the "extra" free prize that really sells us. Reality talent show contestants have learned the importance of a backstory. Too often the most talented contestant is voted out in favor of the one with the better backstory, the tale of their struggle we fall in love with. Maybe business people should think more about their free prize--the credible and relevant backstory they can sell?
G is for Go-Go: No, not the dancers, but the philosophy that demands we keep charging ahead, setting aside our fears and anxieties while we try to make good things happen. You can't wait around for someone to deliver to you what you are looking for. Go-go and make it happen for yourself! It's something many of the young people I meet need alot MORE of...a little more go-go might just be what it takes to set you apart from your competition.
H is for Haters: There is so much in our society that is broken, and instead of working to fix things, too many folks just hate on everything. Hating is never the answer for success. Better to spend your energies figuring out how to improve things than pointing fingers at what or who is broken.
I is for Ideas: There are just not enough good ideas out there. Companies are spending billions of dollars looking for them. To be successful, you can't simply wait around for someone else to come up with the ideas. Create them yourself! Ideas are needed in every field, in every department, in every company. Innovators who are willing to think up new ideas will succeed, not followers. They are the people companies are looking for.
J is for "Just Desserts": What effort you put into a task, a job, an assignment, will get repaid to you in time. Believe it. Maybe you can fake your way through a class or a work project, but your "just desserts" will be waiting for you, somewhere, sometime. It never fails.
K is for "Kurpis-like": Maybe you've already seen it listed in the Urban Dictionary...I did not put it there...but it's not bad advice. Try to be more "Kurpis-like"--super-productive with a little go-go thrown in. Whatta ya say?
Check back next month for more success words...

Just Desserts - this is certainly true, especially in academics. Tests, projects, and homeworks are just mandatory, standardized indicators of what students supposedly learned. These marks will be left behind when you graduate (perhaps not your GPA!). You are left with the time and knowledge that you invested in your studies. You may have gained all the grades and have met all your teachers' expectations, but what you've gained as a person is even more important. In a sense: You reap what you sow.
Hahaha First off the title of the post is awesome. These definitions of these words are principles I try to incorporate into my ethic's of living in so many ways. I am all about the free-prize. People are people, and we are all different. The free prize just has to do with understanding where someone comes from and realizing they act the way they do for a reason. In your dictionary there should be a picture of me next to "go-go," it is just a way of life for some of us. There are action takers and stand-by witnesses. I am there taking as much action as possible in my life with no fear to hold me back. For haters, the only way your doing something right is if you have them. If everyone likes you, that is where the problem lies. Striking fear in the competition is what it is all about. For example, the people in the class that won the competition. People were crying left and right about how they were cheating and blah, blah, blah. They won fair and square, they thought outside of the box and that is what happens when you do that, you win! Haters will always be there no matter what, its how you deal with them that separates you from the rest. For the ideas aspect, I watch that "How did you get so rich?" show on tv sometimes and it is just a show of people just coming up with these random, some absolutely ridiculous, and making millions off of them! Your absolutely right, we don't think enough as culture. Sometime I think that is good sometimes though, because the older I get the more I realize how uncommon "common sense" really is. I am all about earning what you get, because sooner or later wherever you tried to cheat your way out of something is......it will come back to you! This life works full circle, don't cheat yourself out of anything you can earn with just as much effort. I am all for putting "kurpis-like" in Webster's. By the way, the left side of the road is one weird thing t get accustomed too and as soon as you get accustomed to that over there you gotta come back home and readjust yourself over here, non-sense.
Are you sure you didn't post K yourself? you can admit it, we won't judge you haha. K & H are my favorites. Too many haters in the world, even when something good happens.
I completely agree with the letter G for Go-Go and I for ideas. if you can combine the two and have a Go-Go attitude for your own ideas you will be bound for success. Just Deserts is also just right sooner or later if you do not put the hard-work into something and cheat your way through it will show. I'm true believer that with hard work and understanding anyone can be successful.
"G is for Go-Go"...I totally agree Pro K. To many people need to get over being in fear and realize that they are missing to many precious opportunities...
"J is for "Just Desserts""... work hard play hard and the doors will be open with endless opportunities on the other side...
H is for HATERS! Haters exist to curb creativity. They do not contribute to improvement, rather they shoot down potential ideas. We should all strive to be the opposite of a hater, meaning we should be open to everything. Only through being open can we allow the best ideas to surface thus improving whatever circumstances we encounter.
G is for Go-Go: In order to be successful in our life we always should keep going ahead. We have to define our own "SWOT":
1)recognize our strenghts and keep them always on;
2)recognize, accept and try to overcome our weaknesses and hide them from others;
3)find, recognize and do not skip any opportunities that our life offers us and be fast enough to catch them;
4)define, analyse and adapt to the threats around us.
If we want better life we do not have to wait until someone push us ahead, we, as you said, should keep charging ahead on our own.
This post has alot of good points that should be kept in mind especially in the business world. It seems like alot of it has to do with self motivation and drive. I do believe that moving ahead and being successful may occasionally have to do with luck and knowing the right people but motivation and drive are two of the main factors which I believe are in peoples control. As made clear in Go GO and Ideas you cant wait for others to do things for you and leave your fate in others hands. The majority of people look out for themselves first and will put your needs after theirs. If you wnat to get ahead you have to go and get stuff done yourself. Push yourself to get ahead and come up with those great money making ideas and in time you will reach J and get your just desserts.
I really like the Just Desserts.
This is a method I use all the time to keep my self motivated.
Last week I lost my motivation to study for midterms so I took a 1 hout break to book my winter break trip to Cancun.Right after I became full of motivation. In other words, when you need to keep it moving, you should always think about the desired dessert
"Do the thing you fear to do and keep on doing it... that is the quickest and surest way ever yet discovered to conquer fear". This quote is not given to promote Dale Carnegie or use other people's words to get my point across. Carnegie and his stance on fear instantly interested me after one day hearing my father say a random sentence, that I never commented on or discussed. It was along the lines: "... if only I could let go of my fears...Carnegie was right". This took place about 2 years ago; my father talking while walking. A man whom I blamed for semi-poor upbringing, inability to apply his tremendous intellect and master's degree to sustain his family, a man who read more books that our entire neighborhood did combined, a man who would do anything for his family, a man... this list does not stop, trust me. OH! You want to know the point of this rant. That one sentence changed my attitude. I was angry at my father for last 12 years but finally he gave me an explanation without even knowing it. My father's fear kept him from fulfilling his desires. Fear of failure, fear of success, fear of being in charge, fear of making decisions - whatever form of fear he had, it clearly blocked his progress towards self-actualization.
G is for Go-Go and you better believe it. Unfulfilled dreams, lost potentials, ruined families...out of fear. Me not marrying Charlize Theron - fear of commitment.
Charging ahead, setting aside fears, talking Japanese in Berlin with British accent even though you don't speak Japanese - priceless. For everything else you will not do - fear. Recognize it, deal with it, overcome it. Don't let your horizon become a mirage. Did I already say that I thoroughly agree with you Prof. K!?
Professor you are absolutely right, people often don't choose the best product or solution to their problems. What is baffling to me is that with the increased consumer empowerment that the internet has enabled, people still rely on the backstory - rather than a product's or solution's integrity being the most influential factor of peopl's choice. Take example Apple, Inc. Doesn't the company's back story and organizational culture offer a certain nostalgia to Apple products, differentiating them from other computer makers and adding value to their products? Come to think of it, perhaps company's are cashing outh on this free prize like the reality shows who had mentioned. America always roots for the hero! I definitiely do feel however that my life experiences have shaped me more than anything else and why not make hiring companies aware of them since my experiences are indeed substantial enough to differentiate me from other applicants. Plus I got a little go-go too! Fantastic.
Free prices I have also realized does somehow get the consumer buying. We have definitely grown into a society that has empathized so much with a particular "star" that we dismiss the facts. Go-go is definitely a theme I need to start practicing. I think, well at least in my case, being in so may years of academic routine you forget the end goal and vision and get lost in the monotony of academics. So I will have to start go-go asap. Ideas are always a key element in a companies ,that having "fresh meat" is an extreme advantage. All in all, I guess I need to be more Kurpis-like!!
The “Free Prize” concept is everywhere these days! Whether it is fashion, movies, people or ideas, what is actually being sold is not the thing itself, but the idea behind the thing as you mentioned. “Toms” are a great example. These shoes are nothing but a simple pair of canvas slip-ons however their creator made them in order to help others as he donates a pair for every pair bought. Without the concept behind the shoes, they would be just another thing to put on your feet. But because of the idea behind them he can charge a ridiculously amount of money…brilliant!
Why take the blame when you can just blame things on everyone else? Far too many people are thinking this way. Instead of saying “poor me” and failing to achieve what it is that you want and carry out your visions, take responsibility for your life and see how much success will come! Great concept! Finger pointing is nothing but a waste of time.
Ideas are another great one and like the story you told us in class about the “Triple Cast,” sometimes risks need to be taken. There WILL be failure in the process but that is the only way to get to the success. One of my favorite quotes is “If it’s easy, it’s not worth it.” Some of the greatest satisfaction I have gotten in my life has come out of events that I have fallen down and gotten back up a number of times. In the end, you can look back at the hard work and feel rather accomplished and even look at the failure in a positive light.
When taking on a challenging task or putting a lot of effort in to something I always think about the end reward in hopes that my efforts will pay off. It’s not always easy to look at those people who are cruising through things or who are taking the easy way out. Sometimes I feel envious of these people but I like to think that hard work now will pay off later.
And of course Kurpis-like…another great one :)
G for Go-Go: I absolutely agree that in this time and age, you need to go the extra mile to set yourself apart from competition. I believe that opportunity passes only once and if you don't get a hold of it, you'll either regret it or you'll just keep on making the same mistake of letting it go over and over again. It really takes a lot of courage and determination to put yourself out there and prove yourself among the rest, but that's the thrill of it all. It doesn't matter how many times you get knocked down. You have to live, learn and move on until you succeed.
I is for Ideas: yes, you are right, the idea never enough for very companies. As for top companies, they need to have the idea by everyday to create the new product. Some of the companies, they need to pay extra money to hired other people ideas from outside of the companies. So, next time when you have idea come up in your mind, just write down. Maybe later you will forget.
It's true that people should have a more go-go attitude, because waiting around for something to happen is a waste of time. We need to accomplish tasks and make our dreams come true ourselves, with a little faith and a lot of action.
There will always be haters out there, and I think they need to be educated so instead of having such a negative attitude about certain things, they can help fix them or make them better.
People have ideas everyday, but are they good ideas. Good or bad, it doesn't hurt to think and create and take a chance on these ideas by pitching them to say maybe your boss. Feedback would be extremely helpful so you can improve on those ideas, and then really blow people away with them.
To begin I'd like to say that I completely agree with you "F" and the free prize. "Backstory" is what sells essentially it is our "goodwill", why someone should choose us over others. Why should a company pay me X amount more then the current guy? Well that's where the back story jumps in, similarly it resembles a purchase of a company for an above market price.
The "I" only goes as far as the "h" lets it. Unfortunate haters regress our movement towards the future and innovation. Fingers are being used for pointing rather then mechanically creating and innovating, and essentially haters work as recruiters as well ensuring that they are not the only ones.
Kudos on the "K" although the root of the word is not certain... I can only imagine the fame deriving from the dictionary. Hope the next batch of acronyms is just as impressive.
Kurpis like, i don't know if people put it there to get A(s) or you are such of a big influence. I did go to urbandictionary and yes you didn't lie. Go-go attitude is something that everyone should have but i feel like the older you get the less of the Go-go attitude you will get because, you will have more responsibilities, when you have a family. You start to care about the people around you, every decision is not just about you, is about people thats around you. To me my biggest success as for now is making my parents pround. Having them not to worry about my well being and what I do. So I feel the Go-go in me, I hope this does die off soon.
I agree with the fact that it’s not always the idea itself that sells but how it is perceived by others. In other words, you need to advertise and market the product right or it won’t sell. You have to work extra hard to get the word out. If someone doesn’t know about your prduct or idea, why would they purchase it? With so many products and choices consumers have to make, you have to make your idea stand out. I agree that more people need more go-go. Unfortunately for me, I think I have so much of it that it does effect my personal life (which I don’t have) and I am trying to find a way to balance it without sacrificing my grades. On the other hand, fortunately for me, more people don’t have enough go-go and it makes me look better! Lol.
I think it’s true that a lot of people have good ideas and don’t voice them or act on them. I have to admit that I am one of them and that is something I am looking to change. Have you ever watched a commercial with a new product or innovation and said to yourself “I thought of that years ago! That was my idea!” If we act on our ideas, maybe someone else won’t utilize them first.
Innovators are what drive the business world today. For someone who can come up with the simplest idea of making a community of friends over the internet (facebook), in turn making it a billion dollar business, while simultaneously connecting everyone to each other blows my mind. Innovators are what companies are looking for, but do you think that we should be our own companies. Or to better rephrase that, should we be our own innovators. Being an innovator is more than just coming up with an idea, but it is how you "go-go" for your idea to be successful, which you so strongly suggested in this blog posting. Being a Go-Go is being someone who is open to new ideas, and willing to take the leap from bridge to bridge. For so long I believed that my life would fall into place, and that I wouldn't have to go out a get it. However, it wasn't till recently I realized life won't slap you in the face. You have to make moves, and roll with what you have to make success from a dream into reality!
From student perspective it is very important to me that someone reminds me that I should look for optimized not good enough solution. On the other hand, sometime there may be not enough time or resources to always stay on top. I think that it is important to try to do thinks most efficiency, but pushing too hard in every single matter may just suck out from a person all the power and lead to nowhere. By this I mean, that people should think carefully about what is most important to them and fight for the things that they value the most.
I try to live by "just desserts" everyday. Going to school for pretty much your whole life gets very annoying and you just want to finish it and start working for people who pay you. Nevertheless, school is the essential foundation for the future and it is key to do well and perform despite not necessarily wanting to. When I get sick of studying after hours of doing it and still a lot to go, I just keep reminding myself why I have to keep at it and what the end rewards will be. This is something I always try to keep in mind when stressed and under pressure especially with upcoming finals.
I like a lot the Go-Go concept! I totally agree that you can’t sit around and wait for someone to deliver to you what you are looking for. Judging by myself: I have never had anything delivered to me on a golden plate. Everything I have, I have it due to my hard work and that Go-Go thing inside me, I guess. Sometimes, I feel like there is no other way but to fight through…stereotypes, invisible walls and ignorant people. “Does life ever get easy?” I ask this question to myself all the time. Sometimes you just want to relax and don’t work a hundred jobs and don’t pay for your school, rent and bills…but I guess, it is what it is. It made me who I am right now and, honestly, I don’t know if I ever could exist without that Go-Go in my life.
First of all I checked Urban Dictionary here it is:
"Kurpis-like", adjective: to perform a task or act generally in hyper-active but super productive way. What a great concept. I am going to be Kurpis-like for the next week in order to achieve the best payout on the finals!
Besides I have a new idea: easy access notes for open book exams. If you have such an opportunity as an open book exam Go-Go and grab it, think ahead about how you can use it to your best advantage.
For me personally, even if I want to be more G or Go-Go, sometimes it gets difficult to keep charging ahead because I become discouraged and reluctant of going on, but once I am reminded of my bigger goal, I am able to set aside my doubts and concerns to try to make good things happen for myself. I agree that I can't just wait around for someone to deliver it to me, but I have to look for it myself. Another thing I agree is that it is usually easier to blame and point your finger at what or who is broken rather than trying to fix it. Also, I don't want to be a follower, I want to be capable of generating ideas and suggestions to become a valuable employee. I think being Kurpis-like is beneficial to every aspect of life. I usually put off things to do in the last minute and I really dislike it. Even if I have an agenda I don't follow it. I want to be more productive and to avoid procrastinating as much as possible.
Free Prize just goes to show that people are suckers. Its sad to say but when people decide to choose what is more appealing compared to the most rational decision, that shows a weakness in our society. Its something that has rapidly gotten out of hand and it seems so acceptable. This can lead to some bad decisions in the future.
I'm not too sure on the Kurpis like there, but the most I can relate to is the that we lack ideas and no goes out the box to figure that next thing to change the world. I'm sure its not gonna happen over night but if you have an idea build on it. And ahh yes my favorite the haters it won't get you anywhere but angry. Haters keep hating we need the motivation.
I agree that if we want to see change we really can't just sit back and wait for it to happen because it won't ever happent that way. We must put in work to see something happen. And if we are not willing to put in work then we shouldn't sit there and criticize, why add more to the problem instead of contributing a solution? And I most definately agree with "just deserts", if you took the time and effort to come up with anything then you deserve you fair recognition for it. Its really unfair how there are many situations that "just deserts" don't exist.
Unfortunately, anywhere you go, there is always going to be people that complain about everything and anything. That’s right, they are ‘Haters’ and it doesn’t matter how perfect the world is. People that are unsatisfied with their own lives hate on others’ ideas, achievements or anything they didn’t have the courage or the brains to do. One just has to be focused on his own goal and not let the evil tongues of haters discourage you. You can’t please everyone.
That really is true, the most valuable commodity (and rarest) in any employee is the ability to innovate. Unfortunately for larger companies, the incentive to stay after coming up with a great idea is low. Even companies like Google are losing employees en-masse as they flock to companies with more creative potential (Facebook etc.) that better compensates them for their innovation (stock comp pre IPO). And “Go-Go” is less missing and more misplaced. I guess society has geared itself towards a more instant gratification like mentality which has resulted in younger people to be very driven, however not in their long-term success.
Hater = Having Anger Towards Everything Readily. This is something that I heard a friend once say to another friend, when she was having a bad day and just hating on everything and everyone around her. This negative type of energy is not productive and never gets anywhere. If people want to get past obstacles or learn to work with people they don't get a long with, they will have to try and look past these negative things and have a more optimistic outlook.
Ideas: I would say that this is something that I definitely think is lacking as well. There are never enough fresh new ideas, and people are constantly looking for the "next big thing" but just waiting won't do anything, they should go out and CREATE that "next big thing". It is something that you can clearly see in fashion, I think with the exception of a few designers, most of the fashion out there is just the same old design with different fabric or a small twists, the same fads and trends come and go. I can't even count the times that I've heard my mom say "I can't believe people are wearing that trend again, I just threw something like that out that I used to wear that in the 70s". This just shows that some designers have just run out of ideas and need to recycle the old ones.
Curious to know, who coined the term "Kurpis-like".
"F - - -- K!"
I couldn’t agree more with H, H for Haters, I always tell myself that hating is so instinct that maybe it is ingrained or in the genes of some people that they just can help themselves but hate. As a child I was always told that the Chinese are on the fast track because they build on stuff for example if they manufactured a pen that was inefficient instead of throwing it out or complaining and pointing figures that same pen while be used to build upon the create and even productive pen. “Peep Peep the Chinese are in the fast lane move out of their way”
J-Just Desserts: In my words “what you reap you sow” sounds like what my grandmother would say to me to motivate me. It is proven that the hard workers are the ones who end up at the top the ones who meet their self-actualization and self-esteem according to Maslow The loafers or pretenders the ones who act like they work hard and take the rewards for work of others are the ones according to Maslow who struggle to meet basic survival and security needs or who only accomplishes short-term success.
As to Ideas I concur but the sealing step after the manifest of an idea is executing the idea. Innovation does not have a period after the idea to be an innovator one has to put the idea into action. Lastly did you copyright you Kurpis-Like great idea.
GO-GO es muy inportante. It is something we all must struggle with. To put away anxieties, social customs, and anything that seems to bog us down. By looking forward and pushing towards goals one could probably avoid a lot of anxieties of everyday life. Yet, to have the self-awareness to take some breaks, breath, and find understanding is also important. This balances is key I think.
G is for Go-Go. We need to take care of our fair share. When someone is cleaning your back, you should take care of your front. We have to make a move from all direction in this world of competition. J is for just desserts. Whatever you do in this life, try to do it right. It takes time to see the result of something that you try to achieve, but it comes at an unexpected time when no back up is allow. It is like throwing something above of your ahead; it will come back to you and the consequences depend of the kind of object that you throw.
I couldnt agree with you any more when it comes to Just Desserts. I know that whenever I put a lot of effort into a project or something, I feel accomplished and happy in the end. I've also been on the other side where I half-fast something and then I get a bad grade and I feel bad because I couldnt done better but I just didn't fell like it.
Think of your “just desserts”, have your ideas ready and just GO-GO for success. All of these words are very motivational. They definitely make me want to set myself apart from everyone else and not be so afraid to take charge. I think these three terms are the foundation a person must set to become successful. Use your “just desserts” and a little Go-Go to motivate yourself and become a creative thinker.
Like you said, business people should focus more on the free prize. One of the reality shows that comes into mind is the season of "Dancing with the Stars" that recently ended. Brandy, who was one of the most talented contestants on the show, was beaten out by someone who had a compelling back story that made the viewers support her (and let's not forget that her mother has a huge fan base).
And I believe in "just desserts", that's why I don't understand why people cheat. The student may get the awesome grade in the end but what did he learn? He learned nothing and when he gets a job, he'll be forced to use the skills and knowledge he would have learned in class but now lacks.
What a great word! "Kurpis-like"! The definition of the term sounds very productive! Along with G for Go-Go, we should definitely make things happen for ourselves. Sometimes it might be hard to get motivated to do so for some people, but like you said, it might be just what it takes to be successful and to separate us from others. We gotta stay motivated and work hard!
Exactly, why waste the energy on hating? It drains people and shows negativity to others. Instead, a positive attitude goes a long way and inspires others to be positive as well! We like positive people!
What an interesting interpretation of the term "free prize"! We should definitely have an interesting way of telling our background story. It should be true, of course. Finding an interesting way to tell our story could make a difference.
Let's all be creative! Innovation is very much needed, and it's important that companies emphasize this.
I too believe that we will be rewarded for our efforts. If we work hard and believe in ourselves, our rewards or "desserts" will come to us!
Why not give F to F==K?!
It is such a strong and important word that never get recognition. We all use it for better or for worst and just the sound of it shakes any controversial way of thinking. However, even though it is used frequently in everyday life and impact people greatly, we seem to avoid it in situations when it is needed the most. Take for example the situation I am in now, I would of loved to start my comment with actually spelling the work F==K, but I can't, it is not appropriate. shame that some words get lost!
I agree that we all need to adopt more of a Go-Go attitude. More so than in the past, we are spoon fed a lot of the times in our youth, which causes us to just relax and expect things to come to us. That's only in the academic world before college. that's perhaps why many students need a period of adjustment in that no one is forcing us to do anything anymore, we can either motivate ourselves or fall behind. Charging ahead and letting go of our fears is what life is all about.
The words just keep getting better and better. A couple words/concepts caught my attention. They were Go Go Go, Ideas, and Kurpis life. In terms of ideas, I feel like I have a million and one of them, but I guess thats what everyone feels like. The go go mentality is a good one to have. Many of my friends keep saying they want to open up their own business, but none of them actually have done anything yet because they are just waiting for something to fall in their lap. Even though I dont fully know what the Kurpis life is, it sounds like it would be something fun and productive, just the way life should be.
It is so intersting to read your blogs Prof. Kurpis. I am reading every word that you have described and I am going back and reading it again. The Hater word catched my eye mostly. I just have to agree that too many people hate on everything. Instead of them being productive and generating new ideas, they just hate and complain. We recently organized an event realted to the Albanian club here at Baruch. All the club members put a lot of effort and worked hard to create the event. At the end the ones that did not put any work where the ones to complain. And I have to agree with your statement: There is so much in our society that is broken. I wish we could all put ourselfs together and generate new ideas. Complaining ,criticizing and hating it's a waste of time. We should help as much as we can. We should all stop pointing fingers at what is broken, but we should help and fix what is broken.
Businesses spend millions of dollars on finding the next innovative idea and I think you just came across a winner Prof.! Your I think your Free Prize idea is something to build upon. I never really dwelled on how right you are pointing out that people often fall in love with the “backstory” of a singer and vote for him/her over a more talented individual. If businesses were to create a “backstory” to their product and somehow get that out to the public, I think they would meet with amazing success. The great difficulty, however, is figuring out what kind of “backstory” would make its way over effectively to the public and how to use it to the business’ full advantage.
Free-prize...Hm, really? The society we live in fosters thinking that nothing in this world is free and you've got to pay a price. It's true that telling personal stories on a TV-show gives and advantage of better recognizion, but by doing so a contestant loses a part of his life, because it becomes publicly available. essentially what you offer as a "free" prize or receive as a "free" prize comes with smb's cost. The best strategy is to be cost-efficient and offer the "free" that costs you the least. For example, in case of a tv-show contestant tell a story that doesn't have any value for you, but will be valuable for the viewers.
I loved H for Haters. i think that it is so true. if there was just more love in the world thenthings would progress much more rapidly and for the better. i think of it interms of the government. If people just got over who caused the probelm and thought about the best way to fix it and how to best work tgether then things might be a little more hopeful for the people. However poloticans cant get past the fact that they want to look good.
all people need to realize when something goes wrong the only reason fingers should be pointed is for punishment reasons. once that happens you have to move on, beacuse no matter who caused it you are in the situation. i loved when you wrote, "Better to spend your energies figuring out how to improve things than pointing fingers at what or who is broken." never truer words.
Go-go-go, Haters... this post is again about trying to change things for the better instead of looking back and commenting on the broken nature of the system. Being successful, you need to look ahead... Innovators are the ones who do this best.
And I need to be Kurpis-like this week for all my final exams and projects!!!
I like the Go-go concept, I really believe that nothing comes easy in this world and you have to put the efforts and the energy and there is no one else who can best serve your interest except you. So the go-go is a must if you really want experience changes not only for yourself but for people around you. "I" for ideas, that is true that companies are paying billions for good ones and I saw that recently on the news with the MTA. They spent million( they actually wrote check to have people come up with new fresh ideas even if the new ideas were not revealed). This prove that companies need people who think outside the box."Kurpis-like", well I'll try to be more like this in some situations, especially in getting a new job.
Socializing influences everyone, but it is not a uniform process. There is a great deal of variation to be found among members of the same general ethnic grouping. We should respect others culture in which they were born and raised in order to understand and communicate appropriately. We can’t ignore our ethnical identities. Culture is a way of conversation among different people and voices. Hating or ignoring all these can restrict the sharing of cultural backgrounds and customs. Say a particular group of people are being attacked; that group is more likely to stick together, and they are not going to be as willing to meet new people for the fear of being persecuted, thus limiting the interaction between people of different cultures, backgrounds, or beliefs. Moreover, hate and ignorance spoils humanity itself. This is especially true among the younger generations.
Younger generation is more vulnerable to things that they hear about or see. It is not hard to convince them that something is right or wrong. What they see is what they learn. That’s why we all have to have some part of responsibility to educate and inform our children, sisters and brothers to be kind and forgivable.
Life is too short to hate each other and give hard times to others. By hating and harming each other we will not get good results.
I agree with I is for ideas. Same as the Artist. Idea not just limited on thinking, but creative. In the real world, the people who come up with more ideas is the exactly the company looking for. Consumer loves creative, they love the new thing. That's why so many new product put into the market every year.
Having a credible backstory can really back you up. If you screw up, people are gong to look for more screw ups in your life. That how the human nature is. Cant change it, but can work around it.
Go -Go.. Motivation, thats how I see this post.In order to keep charging yourself ahead you need something that will keep you charged. If you need it, then you get it.
I is for Ideas. This is important because too many people are afraid to speak up. If I have an idea that I think will make something for efficient or productive or better in any way- I always share it. Even if it may sound silly, I will explain my logic and hopefully people will understand my reasoning. I think that people miss many opportunities because they are too afraid. I am always thinking and I think those who are innovative, intelligent and extraverted will always be infinitely more successful.
G is for go-go. Even though it could be seen as a simple concept, moving on could become very challenging. It is important to know that if we face failure or disappointment in a project or dream that was important to us; we must learn from our mistakes and failures and recognize that tomorrow we will have another day to apply what we learn and avoid future failures /disappointments.
H is for Haters stood out to me the most because I did not think you would have used this word lol.. But in today's society there is a lot of hate and if people just work together to solve a problem it would make the world we live in a better place. But some people need people to hate on them so they can work harder to prove them work. So hate can be a pro and a con depending on the situation.
KURPIS LIKE ? GENIUS. You seem like a really down to earth professor, but the fact that you put HATERS in there makes you that much cooler. So true, that instead of fixing the problems in their world, many people just sit back and judge yours. But most favorite word out of these, is Go-Go. We need to keep ideas moving, generating movement, failing, getting up and doing it again until we get what we want. Then we can sit back and possibly enjoy a show from some GO-Go dancers.
H is for Haters
This is so true of most who are frustrated with themselves. It is easier to raise a hand and point at someone else to blame. But don't we need people like that in our lives to keep us motivated and on track? I mean without constant fingers pointing at our mistakes, would we all have the level of self reflection or awareness needed to identify our flaws and fix them? One thing is for certain, being a hater is an absolute no no, but having them around can prove useful
Kurpis-Like. ahaha, great add onto urban dictionary. hence the link on the side of your homepage i guess? I agree with GHJ. definitely too many haters out there. and people need to start to go go!
Professor, I like Urban dictionary too. It's amazing how you came up with different words of all the 26 letters.
I for ideas indeed! Different people have different ideas about the same subject. In this competitive world, you cannot keep your brain idle, you need to strech your brain as far as possible so you become more creative. If someone likes drawing or is good at drawing now, he cannot expect to be good in it 10 years from now if he doesnt practice.
Moreover, I really liked that you named J for "just desserts" and that is so so so true. I am pretty honest person. At my job, I never deceive my supervisor to look good on his eyes. I also believe in karma(whatever you do comes back to you). There was one time when one of my colleagues got late like a half an hour to work and my supervisor wasnt present at that moment. That time the clocking in maching wasnt working so we had to write it on our own. So she wrote the wrong time. I used to get late too but i never misused the opportunity. However, she got caught because my supervisor checked the camera.
yea right. always ask myself "have i done enough? How can i improve? What can be improved? Then I am no longer hater.
I love G is for Go Go. I believe many people just sit around sometimes and just hope something will come around and change their lives. The reality is that if you want things done you have to get up and do them yourself, in order to see the results you want and how you want them. I also think H is for Haters is good because some people are so consumed about what other people are doing or have and cause an imbalance in the environment. If they were not so focused on these things they would be able to get things done for themselves and everyone would be happy.
Going out and getting what you need for yourself is something that I have experienced and now understand, and it makes a big difference. Waiting around for something to come to you, or relying on someone to do the work for you, may work once, twice, even three times- but let me tell you eventually it WILL bite you in the ass. GO GO off your lazy bum and do something for yourself! When i was 16 I took mindless jobs working in clothing stores because my friends could get me hookups. Then I realized my bosses were braindead, I wasn't being paid well enough, and I had the mental capacity to do much more than simply fold clothes. So I made a resume, attached my high school headshot, and handled craigslist. I began working trade shows at the Jacob Javits at 17. I was making what my friends made in a week in one day.
and by GO GO-ing, I. GOT. MY. S--T. DONE!
SORRY HATERS!
F is for the Free Prize: When it comes to supporting a business and choosing where to shop, I love reading about the individual backstories of overcoming hardships and the like. But when it's going rampant on my favorite reality shows and the most skilled contestant that I was rooting for gets voted off, I hate it.
G is for Go-Go: According to the DISC assesment I'm a type Cs, so before I go-go, I need to Know-Know. There are just choices that I need to make in life that I would rather just sit down and make sure I'm aware of all the possibilites. Just up and setting aside anxieties is one of the hardest things for me to do.
H is for Haters: This made my day, thank you. I'm not fond of people with this mindset. There are plenty of people, some that I happen to be friends with..., who just want to look good by pointing out all the problems they see. Haters never provided any useful feedback, just lots of hot air.

First and foremost, I really like the title of this blog, it's catchy as well as unique in it's own way. I agree with you on some terms. Like H is for haters. Today in general people tend to screw one another over rather than help them whenever opportunities present themselves. The idea of greed is having it's toll in our society. I also like the K Kurpis like. I think as a professor you have been able to teach us to think outside the box, and be more productive in what we do.
It's funny how when I got to the Just Desserts part of the post, I realized that I have been commenting to your blog last minute... One of the letters in my own alphabet is definitely P for procrastination...
I find all these definitions a bit too optimistic. All this advice has been regurgitated over and over and I'm quite frankly tired of hearing it However, I find "Just Deserts" quite ironic as I'm writing this two hours before it is due. Maybe better advice would be, do something that you don't have to fake yourself through! Something you enjoy! Each to his own.
I agree with H for haters but also I think that we can never be non-haters because we have a feeling and the feeling can never fully controlled by our own will. I got your point that we should not point fingers at someone but it is really hard for people to forgive people and it is much harder for people to love the enemy. That’s why we need someone who can love us more and forgive our mistakes so we can learn from the person about what is true love and forgiveness.
G for go-go is what young people need and specially me. I want to go with my ambition without any fear.H for haters who sometimes i possess when i just see around myself hating others for no reason.
Free Prize may not sound very original, but it attracts a lot of people. This is another surprise from Seth. A free prize may seem like a gimmick at first but it actually becomes an essential part of your product or service. We all know what our favorite cereal tastes like, but it becomes irresistible when we see we can get a free prize inside the box. To illustrate his point, Seth is selling the first printing of his book in a special-made cereal box:-)
"haters" are very big problems. if some people spent as much time trying to fix and understand more about whatever it is they are not liking off the bat,as they do complaining and giving off such negativity about it, who knows how much more successful they could be!
think about the ending result ("just desserts") when the motivation is low and pick yourself back up!
I love what yuo said about the "just desserts," professor! It makes me think of karma somewhat. You may not get what you deserve based on your actions at that moment, but at some point you will see the after effects of it.
"F- - -- K"! Great title, it made me laugh :) "J is for Just Desserts" really made me :). The reason being is that obviously, if you don't put in enough effort into an assignment, classwork, homework, whatever it may be, you won't be rewarded. Bottom line is - if you want to be rewarded for you what you did, you have to put effort into doing it. I absolutely love "H is for Haters" as well. I agree that there are way too many haters in this world; so many that it's unnecessary! I think these haters should invest their time into what you have under "I is for Ideas". Then they would be put into better use!
